How to choose the right bike oil grade

Start with your owner manual: it gives the viscosity grade and the JASO or API specification. In general, 10W-30 suits newer engines and cooler starts, while 20W-40 and 20W-50 suit older engines, heavy use and hot weather. Our guides explain the choice in detail: engine oil grades explained and 20W40 vs 10W30 for Delhi traffic.

Frequently asked questions

Which engine oil is best for bikes in Delhi?

For most Indian motorcycles, a 20W-40 4T oil such as Petroblast 4T Plus suits Delhi heat and stop-and-go traffic. Newer, high-revving bikes often run well on 10W-30. Always check your owner manual for the grade and the JASO specification your bike needs.

What is the difference between 20W-40 and 10W-30 bike engine oil?

Both are multigrade oils. 10W-30 flows more easily on cold starts and can help fuel efficiency in newer engines. 20W-40 keeps a thicker film at high temperatures, which many older or hard-working engines and hot conditions favour. See our full comparison: 20W40 vs 10W30 for Delhi traffic.

What does JASO MA2 mean on a bike engine oil?

JASO MA2 is a Japanese standard for four-stroke motorcycle oils used with a wet clutch, where the engine, gearbox and clutch share the same oil. It means the oil gives the clutch the friction it needs without slipping. Read more in our JASO MA2 grade guide.

How often should I change bike engine oil?

Follow the interval in your owner manual. As a general guide, many bikes need an oil change every 2,000 to 5,000 km or at the time interval the manufacturer gives, whichever comes first. Heavy city riding, dust and short trips shorten the interval.
